Education officials paid respect to great teachers over the age of 65 and above at their homes in Kyaukpyu Township of Rakhine State to mark World Teachers’ Day yesterday, according to an education official.
“This ceremony is the tradition of Kyaukpyu township. This year marks the 13th ceremony. It was started at the time of Daw Tin Tin Ohn, township education officer. We conducted the ceremony at No (3) B.E.H.S, Sandaku Hall and Sane station in the past. We held the ceremony with Myat Saya song. In the term of Saya Gyi U Saw Win, in 2020, we paid respect from away during the COVID-19 period. Now, in 2021, we paid respect at the houses of teachers,” said township education officer Daw Nu Nu Thar.
All the teachers at the age of over 65 are the ones who live in Kyaukpyu Township and those who are transferred from Yangon to Kyaukpyu are not put in the lists according to the decision of the committee and those who live in Kyaukpyu Township are on the lists although they are retired from other townships, according to the official.
A 73-year old teacher Daw Tin Tin Ohn said, “I am glad that the youths continuously hold the paying respect ceremony to teachers. I want to urge the teachers to teach the pupils regardless of who that person may be. They should hold the ethics of teachers what the trend or system may be. They should teach according to the saying such as teachers are human gardeners and education is the treasure.”
There are 2,171 basic education teachers in Kyaukpyu Township. K500 is collected from a teacher every month and saved at Myanma Economic Bank.
