Temporary power outages expected in YGN townships for gas pipeline maintenance

The Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) has scheduled a temporary power outage in specific township areas from 26 December to 2 January for the Yadana Offshore Natural Gas pipeline maintenance. This pipeline supplies gas to the natural gas power plants in Yangon Region.
YESC reports that the maintenance work will temporarily decrease approximately 100 megawatts in the capacity for generating and transmitting power from the natural gas generator into the power system.
Furthermore, YESC has identified a leak in the Taungtha Natural Gas Pipeline, which is responsible for transmitting gas from Shwe Offshore to Myingyan. To address this issue, the pipeline will be temporarily halted for repair on 26 December, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. This repair work will necessitate a suspension of gas delivery, leading to an estimated 315-megawatt reduction in power generation and transmission capacity into the power system.
In light of these circumstances, YESC has announced a reduction in electricity production during the gas pipeline repairs. Consequently, emergency load reduction measures will be implemented, resulting in temporary power outages in specific townships within Yangon Region. — TWA/KZW
