Local residents in Thandaunggyi Township are mainly relying on perennial plants such as rubber, coffee, durian, cardamom and betel for a living. This year, some of them turned to turmeric.

The prices of dried turmeric significantly rose from K4,000 to K6,000 per viss (a viss equals 1.6 kilogrammes). It allows the local community to generate income,” Saw Thar War, a grower from Thandaunggyi Township said.
