Traditional clay pots for drinking water are in high demand in Phaungpyin Township, Sagaing Region, as it is scorching in summer.

The prices of clay pots range between K2,000-K7,000 depending on design, size and quality. Last year, it took about a month to sell all the pots loaded on a motor vessel. Now, the pots on a vessel are expected to be sold out within 15 days on the back of strong demand. A ship carrying clay pots are estimated at K2 million, said the clay pot sellers.

Some vendors and hawkers carrying goods on their shoulders are selling the clay pots in Kalewa, Mawlaik and Phaungpyin townships. In addition to pots for drinking water, flower vase (Buddhist offering), and earthen pots for cooking, earthen toys and money-saving box are also in high demand. — Ko Tun (IPRD)/GNLM
