Upgrading of Chindwin riverbank landslide protection project underway

In the financial year 2021-22, the winning bidders started implementing those projects regarding the riverbank landslide protection in the last week of December 2021 in Phaungbyin, Kalewa and Kani townships, spending K639.625 million of the Union budget.

Upgrading of Chindwin riverbank landslide protection project is being carried out spending over K639 million, said U Htet Zaw Oo, Assistant Director of the Sagaing Region Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems.
“As part of the project, the construction of stone slabs, reinforced concrete retaining walls based on bored pile and slabs retaining wall based on bored pile are being carried out spending over K639 million from the union budget in Phaungbyin, Kalewa and Kani townships. More than 20 per cent of the project has been completed so far. We are also conducting field inspections to complete the landslide prevention task in time,” U Htet Zaw Oo clarified.
For the Chindwin River landslide protection project, the construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls based on bore pile and stone slabs measuring 340 feet in Strand road, Phaungbyin township, slabs retaining wall based on bored pile and stone slabs measuring 300 feet in Zeedaung village, in Kalewa township and slabs retaining wall based on bore pile and stone slabs measuring 480 feet in Kane village, Kani township are being developed. Those projects will be carried out by 20 March 2022.
