Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) held a meeting with Vice-Admiral David Johnston AO RAN over the phone yesterday.

At the meeting, the Vice- Senior General talked about the leading role of the State Administration Council in accordance with the 2008 State Constitution for the establishment of a democratic State with justice and freedom, the five work plans of the Council, and the implementation of existing policies on politics, economy, peace and foreign affairs.

He continued to say that Myanmar Tatmadaw is a democratic Tatmadaw as the Australian military, valuing democratic practices including freedom of expressions and avoidance of brutal crackdown on the peaceful protesters, handling protests in line with democratic norms and existing laws in the last three weeks under the state of emergency, and using the minimal forces in controlling riots.

The Australian Vice-Admiral discussed that his country is a development partner country of Myanmar, with making bilateral cooperation as an ASEAN’s partner country.

He also said that Australia will provide assistance in COVID-19 containment measures and the economic sector of Myanmar. The meeting also discussed the reason of Tatmadaw for taking all the powers of the country and cooperation between the two militaries.—MNA/GNLM
