Myanmar sugar, which has been exported to Vietnam as largest buyer, has also received orders from Bangladesh, Indonesia and other foreign countries, according to the Myanmar Sugar and Sugar Related Products Association.
Myanmar produces about 400,000 tonnes of sugar a year and exports surplus of the domestic consumption to overseas market, majority to Vietnam.
In this year’s sugar harvest season in September, Vietnam offered an order for 10000 tonnes of sugar and it has been planned to be prioritized, according to the association.
“We have received order from Vietnam which wants to buy sugar produced this September, so it has been considered as priority. Bangladesh, Indonesia and other countries have also offered sugar orders,” he said.
As largest buyer of Myanmar sugar, Vietnam bought around 70000-90000 tonnes last year.
