Yangon prepares for matric exam with 18,951 students

A total of 18,951 students are set to take the matriculation exam in Yangon Region in the academic year 2023-24, reports say.
The region accommodates 73 exam centres for the students taking the science, arts and science-arts subjects. Notably, there is only one examinee sitting for the Optional Myanmar subject.
Yangon Region Education Officer Deputy Director-General Dr Cho Cho Myat Aung said: “This year heralds the inception of the new Grade-12 system nationwide. Teachers and students alike are navigating the new curriculum for the first time, necessitating special training.”
Although some students showed concerns about the new curriculum, they had worked hard the whole year, said the officer.
“We also provided support to the education staff to help them navigate this unfamiliar territory. I would like to advise the students to give their best effort and prioritize their health,” she added.
The Department of Myanmar Examinations has released mock tests to help students familiarize themselves with the new curriculum. Additionally, both public and private school students can benefit from professors’ insights on each subject by reading discussions published in State newspapers.
The regional government also organized enhancement of courses and talks for teachers to undergo training in the new curriculum. The exam will be held from 9 am to 12 pm, starting from 11 to 19 March, covering one subject per day. — Nyein Thu (MNA)/NT
