The final cremation ceremony of the Naga Hnakaung Sayadaw in Tachilek Township, Shan State, is planned to be held on 6 April, according to the information committee for the cremation ceremony.
The ceremony will be held on the ground beside a circular road, and the event arrangements, as well as the final rites procession, will be released by the committee.
The presiding patron of the Naga Hnakaung Monastery in Tachilek, Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru, Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika, Agga Maha Pandita Naga Hnakaung Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Dhammasiri passed away on 8 February 2024. He was 97 years old and 77 Vasa.
“The Sayadaw was a member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee; this was a huge loss for the Buddhist community, not only in Tachilek but also for the entire State. It is not quite easy to find Sayadaw like him. He was honoured even by Thailand’s royal family. Our country also honours him,” a resident of Tachilek said.
Preaching ceremonies dedicated to the cremation will be held every night from 1 to 5 April. — TWA /TKO
