SUFC face strong teams in ACL group stages

Shan United FC, back-to-back Champions of the Myanmar National League 2020 season is facing tough teams in the Preliminary Stage of the 2021 Asian Champions League (ACL 2021), which is being organized by Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

In the Preliminary Stage, Shan United will play an away match against Australian Melbourne City FC on 7 April. Next, in the Play-Off Stage, Shan United will face Japanese club Cerezo Osaka FC on 14 April.

Only those who win both matches will advance to the ACL 2021 Group Stage.

Reaching the group stage, Shan United will face Chinese club Shandong Luneng FC, Thai club Port FC, and Hong Kong club Kitchee SC in Group J of the tournament.  The ACL 2021 group stage matches will be held from 21 April to 7 May, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic condition, all Asian Champions League (ACL) and AFC Cup group matches will be played in a single country (centralized venues) designated by the country or the representing club or Asian Football Confederation.

Due to the lack of a home-away system, the ACL group stage is limited to the Double Round-robin system and AFC authorities are arranging the tourney in a single round-robin system.Fans will be notified when the venue and country are announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), according to the football officials. —GNLM
