MoALI holds meeting on food and nutrition expertise on agricultural research

Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo chairs the coordination meeting on food and nutrition expertise on agricultural research yesterday.

A coordination meeting of Food and Nutrition Expertise on Agricultural Research was held yesterday afternoon at the Department of Agricultural Research, Yezin, Nay Pyi Taw.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo, Deputy Minister Dr Aung Gyi, Directors-General from the departments, rectors, and researchers of the Agricultural Research Department.
At the meeting, Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo said that the agricultural and livestock research results play an essential role in food security and the comprehensive development of rural areas in various states and regions.
He emphasized the need to breed high quality and new varieties according to the different water and soil conditions of each state and region, do research and develop the most profitable cropping patterns and cultivation methods in each area and focus on climate change and practical research in meeting the prerequisites of procedures and markets.
Since its establishment in 1954, the Department of Agricultural Research has produced 253 new varieties of crops, including 91 types of paddy. With the Branch of Agricultural Education collaboration, these new varieties and farming methods and technologies have been distributed to farmers.
The Deputy Minister urged all to carry out the agricultural development works in line with the Civil Service Codes of Conducts. The meeting also discussed the research works being implemented with the departments’ cooperation. The Union minister and the deputy minister coordinated the discussion as necessary.—MNA
