Sagaing Region expects to meet target of corn sown acreage by September

SAGAING Region Agriculture Department projected to plant 248,344 acres of corn in the region during the monsoon crop season this year.
“The cultivation of sweet corn and baby corn started in June. At present, 201,443 acres of sweet corn and 45,908 acres of baby corn have been planted. The projected acres will be completed by September 2021,” said U Aung Kyi Win, deputy head of Sagaing Region Agriculture Department.
The region department covered 10,427 acres of sweet corn in Kalay District, 570 acres in Hkamti, 18,763 acres in Naga Self-Administered Zone, 1,625 acres in Monywa District, 12,016 acres in Shwebo District, 154,253 acres in Kanbalu District, 2,908 acres in Sagaing Region, 836 acres in Katha District and 45 acres in Kawlin District.
Additionally, 480 acres of baby corn in Mawlaik District, 595 acres in Tamu District, 6,007 acres in Kalay, 4,462 acres in Naga Self-Administered Zone, 626 acres in Monywa District, 17,677 acres in Yinmabin District, 11,434 acres in Shwebo District, 669 acres in Kanbalu District, 212 acres in Sagaing Region, 2,228 acres in Katha District and 1,518 acres in Kawlin District, as per the data of Sagaing Region Agriculture Department.
The department is raising awareness of fall armyworm invasion in the farms. It distributed 5,000 insecticide units for natural pest management, the department stated.—Lulay/GNLM
