List of goods released for import licence application

NATIONAL NEWS

The Ministry of Commerce is aiming to streamline imports and regulate the use of foreign currency for imports.
Goods are imported through the import licence system as well, officials stated.
In doing so as per the licencing system, it is planned to publish the list of goods required to apply for import licences based on requirements of raw materials, domestic needs and requirements in three stages.
According to the 2017 Customs Tariff of Myanmar, a notification was issued with the Import/Export Newsletter (18/2021) that electronics, food items, cosmetics, consumer goods, paper products and construction materials according to the HS Code 10 digit, and 3,070 product lines will need to apply for import licences as of 1 January 2022.
Similarly, a notification was issued with the Import/Export Newsletter (1/2022) in line with the 2017 Customs Tariff of Myanmar on 25 January 2022 that wheat, some food items, some plastic items, pulp, silk, cotton, carpets, textiles, home appliances made of glass, bicycle and vehicle spare parts, according to the HS Code 10 digit, and 826 product lines will need to apply for import licences as of 1 March 2022.
If exporters and importers want to apply for import licences before the deadline, they will be allowed to apply for import licences starting from 1 February 2022.
Statements by these product lines can be found on the Ministry’s websites: commerce.gov.mm, myanmartradeportal.gov.mm and commercejournal.com.mm.
Officials said traders could contact the Department of Trade (Head Office) in Nay Pyi Taw, import and export offices in Yangon and Mandalay, and border trade zones if they had any queries about the statement. —MNA
