New Thabot Kan Bridge under construction on Shwethaungyan-Magyizin route

The Ayeyawady Region’s Bridge Department constructs a new Thabot Kan bridge on Ngayokekaung-Ngwesaung-Chaungtha-Shwethaung Yan-Magyizin-Kyaukchun-Gwa (Shwethaungyan-Magyizin) road section in Chaungtha of Pathein District in Ayeyawady Region aiming to promote the economy, social, health and tourism industry in Ayeyawady Region and Rakhine State.
The bridge is being constructed over the Thabot Kan river spending the Union budget by the bridge special task force (16).
The beachside road projects are being implemented from Ngayokekaung to Gwa Township on the Ngayokekaung-Sinma-Ngwesaung-Chaungtha-Shwethaungyan-Magyizin-Kyaukchun-Gwa road section. The Thabot Kan bridge construction project includes in Shwethaungyan-Magyizin road section, said bridge construction engineer in charge U Win Lwin.
The new two-lane bridge is 484.596 metres (1,589.69 feet) long with 24 feet in width. The water clearance is 3.66 metres (12 feet) in height (from A.H.F.L) and 25.03 metres (82.12 feet) in width. The Design loading is HL-93. It has a total of 18 spans and is 1.5 metres in diameter Bored Piles will be used for the foundation. The body of the bridge is of R.C Concrete and it will also use P.C Girder, RC Girder & RC Slab for the upper part of the bridge.
The pre-engineering works for new bridge construction including five Bored Piles digging operations were conducted with K200 million of the Union budgets for the 2021-2022 (six-month) mini-budget period. In the 2022-2023FY, it will spend K1,000 million of the Union budget for the construction of Abutment A1Cap, Abutment Body, P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5 and Cap, said the in charge of the bridge project.
The new bridge will bring a lot of benefits to the locals regarding their transport and trading of rice, paddy, meat/fish and crops. It can also develop trade flows and socio-economic status.  Moreover, there will be easy access to Gawrangyi Island, Ngwesaung, Chaungtha and Shwethaungyan beaches bringing new job opportunities to locals to increase their incomes, the Ministry of Construction.— Pwint Thitsa/GNLM
