Illegal foodstuffs, electronics, cobras, chemicals and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
An inspection team under the instructions of the Yangon Region Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force conducted inspections on the Yangon-Hpa-an-Myawady Trade Road on 8 August.
Officials nabbed consumer goods and cosmetics that were different from the Import Declaration (ID) from a Mitsubishi 12-wheel truck (approximately K10 million) between Ye Mon village and Nyaungtachan village of Hlegu township. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, an on-duty combined team under the supervision of the Mandalay Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force carried out inspections at the 16-Mile Kyaukchaw Checkpoint on 9 August.
They captured K510,000 worth of 51 illegal cobras that were hidden with snack cartons and passenger luggage from a Jinbei Haise car (approximately K13 million) heading from Mandalay to Muse township. In addition, 170 boxes of suspected Toluene liquid worth K2,380,000 that were hidden with Christian Bibles from a Nissan AD Van car (approximately K12 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 12 August, the container terminal of Myanmar Industrial Port captured K2 million worth of electric motors (550W) that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Afterwards, 145 cartons of pears worth K3,625,000 that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from two vehicles heading from Myawady to Yangon were confiscated at Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint under the Kayin State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Therefore, eight arrests (approximately K43,515,000) were made on 8, 9 and 12 August, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
