MoHT Union Minister attends 7th Global Food Tourism Forum online

Union Minister Dr Htay Aung of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism virtually attended the seventh Global Food Tourism Forum cooperated by the World Tourism Organization and Basque Culinary Centre (BCC) that was held at Nara in Japan yesterday.
At the beginning of the forum, Nara Prefecture Administrator Mr Shogo Arai, Director-General of the Nara Tourism Bureau Ms Hirata Chieko, Dr Qu Dongyu from FAO, General Manager of Basque Culinary Centre (BCC) Mr Joxe Mari Aizega, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Mr Zurab Pololikashvili and State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Mr Hiroo Ishii delivered opening speeches.
According to the forum programme, topics such as the talents of women and youths, the ensuring of no wastage of food and drink, the future of earth and mankind, the achievement of sustainable development goals and the World Tourism Federation’s food tourism industry challenges will be divided into three parts and discussed.
The forum titled “Gastronomy Tourism for People and Planet: Innovate, Empower and Preserve”, will be held from 12 to 15 December, with the aim of allowing food tourism professionals to share good practices and new ideas and to help recover from the effects of COVID-19.
Meeting teachers and students who study tourism and hospitality services at the National Management Degree College in Yangon, the Union minister discussed cooperation with the Ministry of Education to open up tourism subjects to the university level, and the ministry’s employees and tourism experts to teach hotel and tourism subjects. Professors from international universities visited and taught at the college and student exchange programmes were conducted with foreign tourism universities.
Afterwards, Principal of the National Management Degree College Dr Nila Myint Htoo explained the teaching of diploma and degree courses and plans to open new courses. Then, the Union Minister coordinated. — MNA/KZL
