The 24th Myanmar-Thai joint drug control meeting is in progress yesterday in Yangon.

The 24th Myanmar-Thai joint drug control meeting was held at the Park Royal Hotel in Yangon yesterday.
At the meeting, Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Secretary Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Chief of Myanmar Police Force Maj-Gen Zin Min Htet said that narcotic drugs are one of the biggest problems every country in the world is faced with, that drug trafficking and drug abuse are related to transnational crimes and are growing and that the problem continues to be a challenge that can pose negative consequences to health, economic and social matters and national development of all the countries.
He added that Myanmar regards the fight against narcotic drugs as a national duty and is carrying out drug abuse control in cooperation with neighbouring countries, Mekong member countries, BIMSTEC members and ASEAN members. He also thanked Thailand for giving all the necessary help and support to the anti-drug measures of Myanmar.
Then, Secretary-General Mr Wichai Chaimongkhon of the Narcotics Control Board of Thailand said that Myanmar-Thai cooperation has led to considerable success and that Thailand will continue providing capacity-building courses for members of Myanmar anti-drug force and modern technical equipment. — MNA/KZW
