Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, industrial materials, jade and vehicles seized

The combined teams under the supervision of Customs Department confiscated 700 kilogrammes of illegal dried beef worth K4.2 million and 250 kilogrammes of blocks supposed to be petrified wood worth K5 million from a Win Myanmar MPV micro bus (approximately K30 million) heading to Muse from Mandalay at the Yepu permanent checkpoint on 26 June, two kinds of goods worth K16,763,040 including a set of Ottoman sofa that exceeded the 61 days of VPA from a container at the Hteedan Port and three kinds of goods worth K80,424,750 including 3,852 kilogrammes of Lang Hoa Roll Tissue that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a container at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint on 27 June. The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
Additionally, a combined team led by a police officer from Muse District Police Station, while patrolling near Sinphyu border in Muse township on 27 June, seized two kinds of goods worth K4.59 million including 1,156 bracelets supposed to be made of jade and 326 kilogrammes of cut pieces of jade worth K9.78 million without official documents from two vehicles. The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a total of 0.912 tonne of illegal teak, 1.247 tonnes of illegal hardwood and 2.050 tonnes of other illegal timbers worth K1,533,280 were seized in Bago and Thayawady districts on 28 June. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
As a result, a total of eight arrests were made on three consecutive days from 26 to 28 June, with an estimated value of K152,291,070, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
