Yangon circular rail section to get two new stations: Okkalapa and Thamine Myothit

As part of the Yangon Circular Rail Upgrading Project, Yangon Region is set to witness the construction of two brand-new stations — Okkalapa Station and Thamine Myothit Station. The Yangon Station Chief Supretendent, U Thaung Htike, confirmed the news, stating that the construction of these stations will commence in the current fiscal year with the allocated budget.
The Yangon Circular Rail Section is undergoing significant improvements, with seven stations — Aungsan, Kamayut, Okkyin, Phawkan, Thamine, Tamway, and Kyaukyaydwin set to undergo upgrades and renovations. The tender announcement for these upgrades has already been released.
Upon completion of the renovation works, the circular railway is expected to be used for high-speed trains, providing improved transportation options for approximately 240,000 passengers on a daily basis.
The project’s progress highlights the commitment to enhancing Yangon’s railway infrastructure, promising a more efficient and convenient public transport system for residents and commuters. — ASH/KZL
