Confiscation of illegal items: Timbers, auto parts, consumer goods, industrial materials and vehicles

A total of 2.275 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K1,137,900 was seized by the side of the road in Phayagyi Hill near the railway station in Pathein township on 9 October and action was taken under the Forest Law.
The Customs on-duty teams under the Customs Department conducted inspections on 10 and 11 October and confiscated 93 kinds of goods worth K73,411,800 including 21.94 tonnes of auto parts and 7,800 square metres of ceramic floor tiles that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from nine containers at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint and an Isuzu Giga truck (approximately K30 million), headed to Yangon from Myawady, carrying three kinds of goods worth K2,481,970 including 50 Panasonic bicycles (used) that exceeded the ID at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 11 October, the combined teams seized two kinds of goods worth K4.26 million including 42 Honnanbo electric rice cookers without official documents from a vehicle travelling from Myawady to Taunggyi at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint and a total of 0.419 tonne of illegal teaks worth K326,532 in Toungoo districts. The action was taken under Customs procedures and the Forest Law.
The on-duty team captured an unregistered Honda CR-V (estimated value of K4.5 million) at the Kanlel Bridge checkpoint on Pathein-Monywa road in Mindon township on 11 October. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
A total of nine arrests were made on three consecutive days from 9 to 11 October, with an estimated value of K116,118,202, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
