Many visitors flock to Daesunpa Pagoda in Bago Region

The Daesunpa Pagoda, located on Daesunpa Hill three miles west of Wanbeinn Village in Bago Township, Bago Region, has experienced a growing number of pilgrims, according to U Than Oo, the joint treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Daesunpa Pagoda.
He mentioned, “Since the December holidays, there has been a surge in visitors from various states and regions, particularly pilgrim groups from Bago Region. On weekdays, the pagoda welcomes around 200 pilgrims; on weekends, this number increases to 200 to 400. In addition to pilgrims, avid climbers often visit, especially during the early mornings of the dry season. Many continue their journey to nearby places like the Shwesunpa and Myasunpa hill pagodas.”
The Buddha Pujaniya Festival of the Daesunpa Pagoda is typically held on the full-moon day of Tabaung each year, and the festival and hill trips around Daesunpa usually span from the full-moon day to the 10th waning of Thadingyut, covering ten days.
Along the route to the Daesunpa Pagoda, several other pagodas, including the Shwesunpa Pagoda, Kyaiksunpa Pagoda, Myasunpa Pagoda, Kyaukphya Pagoda, Kyaukhti Pagoda, Laykyun Aungman Pagoda, Hmyawdawyoung Pagoda, Aung Sekkya Pagoda, Buddha Sekkya Pagoda, Lawka Sekkya Pagoda, Bar Theikdhishin Pagoda, Aung Theikdhi Pagoda, Gamontaung Pagoda, Rathedaung Pagoda, Ingyintaung Pagoda, Maha Bawdi Pagoda, Bawkyo Pagoda, Shwesayan Pagoda, and Manikaytha Hair Relic Pagoda, attract pilgrims as well. — ASH/ TMT
