International Customs Day celebrated in Yangon

Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein attended the ceremony to mark the International Customs Day in Yangon yesterday.
First, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the emergence and objectives of International Customs Day and said Myanmar became a member of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in 1991, and it has been celebrating the significant day for 33 years.
The theme of 2024 International Customs Day is “Customs-Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose” which aims to overcome and grab more opportunities together with the raid developing trade amid the rapidly changing technologies.
He also stressed the duties of government employees to grab the trust of the public in every service of the government, to follow the Model Code of Ethics and Conduct released by the World Customs Organization to ensure the confidence of the public in total, and the vital role of modern techniques instead of traditional ways and ongoing work plans to link with National Single Window based on Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS).
Moreover, he urged all to follow the policies set by the government, the ministry and the Customs Department “to enhance trade facilitation through simplifying Customs Procedures and to ensure proper collection of Customs Duties and Taxes.”
He then emphasized the need to accelerate the momentum to brighten up the dignity of the department.
Then, he presented awards to outstanding football teams of the divisions under the department, excellent staff, blood donors and outstanding students who passed the 2022-2023 academic year with distinctions.
He then inspected the customs historical museum and E-Lock Control Room with the relevant officials. — MNA/KTZH
