Antique fire engine museum opens in Yangon Region

A museum dedicated to preserving antique fire engines has opened within the compound of the Department of Fire Services in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region, and it is open to the public.
Director U Thein Tun Oo of the department said, “We opened the museum for the public to learn about the history of fire services and to study fire engines used throughout different periods. That is the first of its kind in Myanmar, and we are very proud of it. Similar museums exist in other countries”.
Foreign visitors were also among those who came to observe the vehicles, some of which date back to the colonial era.
The museum exhibits nine antique fire engines, including the “Fire Kings” – Merryweather (Steam) and Merryweather (Petrol) – which were manufactured in the UK and arrived in Myanmar in 1909.
Currently, the Department of Fire Services has 3,665 fire engines at its disposal nationwide. — ASH/NT
