SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing meets members of Shan State government, officials of Self-Administered Zones, departmental personnel, local authorities and town elders in Taunggyi yesterday.

All the people need to happily work for the prosperity of the nation in a stable condition with good income, said Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in meeting with members of Shan State government, officials of Self-Administered Zones, departmental personnel, local authorities and town elders at the office of Shan State government in Taunggyi yesterday morning.
First, Shan State Chief Minister Dr Kyaw Tun reported to the Senior General on undertakings in social, economic, health and regional development sectors, hydropower generation, tourism, manufacturing and general sectors. Chairman of Pa-O Self-Administered Zone Administration Body U Khun Ye Htwe and Chairman of Danu Self-Administered Zone Administration Body U Arkar Lin reported on regional matters and the development of the regions.
The Senior General urged all to emphasize export of quality rice, an increase of per-acre yield of crops, growing of trees for environmental conservation to ensure sufficient supply of water to Taunggyi, implementation of urban projects, conservation of watershed areas for prevention of silting in Inlay Lake and seeking ways to generate electricity with the use of biogas in Danu Self-Administered Zone.
Union ministers reported on agriculture and livestock breeding sectors in Shan State, conservation of the environment, conducting of vocational courses for local people, implementation of emerald green projects in villages, assistance for small-scale industries, vaccination, upgrade of sports grounds and gymnasiums in regions and states, and improvement of ethnic literature works and culture.
In his speech, the Senior General said Shan State is on more than 60,000 square miles of the area as home for 5.5 million of population. If they do everything by adoring their land, it will be a good area. If they make efforts for increasing the per-acre yield of paddy, the state will have increased income more than now.
Shan State operates not only agriculture but livestock breeding farms. Livestock tasks are being carried out at the livestock zone in Ayethaya with successful results. The Senior General urged all to systematically arrange the livestock breeding tasks not only in Ayethaya livestock breeding zone but in other townships. Broken rice, bran and groundnut expeller cakes can be used as feedstuffs benefiting the livestock breeding sector.
The government is emphasizing the prosperity of the State and the sufficiency of foods in nation-building tasks. All the people need to happily work for the prosperity of the nation in a stable condition with a good income. The country needs stability based on political and security trends. As such, the country will be prosperous by holding sports and festivities.
There are many sources to generate hydropower in Shan State. If coal, abundant in China State, can be used to systematically generate electricity with modern technology, it will mitigate environmental deterioration. As Shan State is a hilly region, wind power can be generated. Hence, utilizing the existing natural resources for generating electricity will benefit the state. The sufficiency of electricity will contribute much to the development of the region.
In 2009, there were 112,145 KG students in Shan State. Of them, 101,428 students reached Grade-1, accounting for 84 per cent. At the grade-6, 64,000 students learned education, accounting for 52 per cent. Among them, 41,000 students reached grade-10, accounting for 34 per cent and 37,000 at the matriculation, 30 per cent. Among them, 9,600 students passed the matriculation exam, accounting for 7.93 per cent. As such, it can be seen that as Shan State is weak in education, encouragement should be given to learning education. As education is weak in the state, it can be reviewed that it is difficult to turn out skilled persons in the businesses of agriculture and livestock sectors.
Concerning the peace, the government is making efforts for restoring the peace. Myanmar is a Union based on democracy and federalism inhabited by various ethnic people. All need to understand democracy. Democracy is governing the state under the law with the wish of the majority. Everybody needs to abide by the government under the law but they must not abuse the majority’s wish. As the 2008 constitution was approved through a referendum, it cannot be revoked. The Tatmadaw accepted to amend things in the constitution in line with the current situation. The Tatmadaw controlled everything in line with democracy. It is necessary to manage the holding of the election in a correct manner.
As ethnic nationals possess various kinds of literature and cultures, the government encourages them. But all need to use the Myanmar language and Myanmar literature as the Union literature. All Myanmar citizens need to preserve their national characteristics. Likewise, all ethnic nationals have to preserve their national characteristics.
Arrangements are being made to vaccinate the people as quickly as possible. Beautifying the urban area can contribute to the health condition of the people. In fact, Shan State is beautiful. Emphasizing environmental conservation will help Shan State enjoy the improvement of the tourism industry. It is necessary to grow flowery plants and windbreaks for beautifying the region. The creation of a good environment will contribute much to the development of the region.
The Senior General yesterday morning inspected the Shan State sports ground in Taunggyi and gave instructions on the upgrade of the sports ground and tasks for the development of the sports sector. —MNA
