Arrests of undocumented Myanmar migrant workers have risen more than before in Thailand, and inspections are being carried out especially in districts where majority of Myanmar workers enter, according to Myanmar nationals in Thailand.
As more and more Myanmar nationals have entered Thailand illegally, inspections have intensified not only in border areas but also inside the country, said a Myanmar national in Thailand.
“The number of undocumented migrants from Myanmar arrived sharply. Thailand Prime Minister himself has told actions would be taken against undocumented migrants, so inspections have tightened more in both border areas and inside the country. Now, arrests and inspections have been intensified in districts where Myanmar migrants have arrived mostly. Arrests are being made against undocumented migrants, even online sellers,” he said.
Not only costing money, illegal migration can also be unfortunately life-threatening, that is why he suggested coming through official procedures.
Being an undocumented migrant worker can mean losing the protection of the law for everything from wage to moving around. An undocumented worker can’t receive compensation if they get hurt at workplace, therefore he wants Myanmar people to come through legal procedures, he urged again.
