As cases of panic jumping from buildings occur amid increasing operations to arrest undocumented migrants in Malaysia, Myanmar nationals there are being discouraged from doing so, the Lovely Heart Parahita Blood Donor Group (Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia) has warned.
Arrest operations known as operasi have increased recently, but it is difficult to get the accurate information on when and where they will search, so Myanmar nationals are advised to stay where they are and be vigilant.
Since there are reports about the shops owned by Myanmar nationals or Bangladeshis and the areas where foreigners usually stay, those people who are currently living there need to be more cautious, the group said.
“We would like to remind Myanmar nationals in Malaysia. As we all know, they are now tightening operasi in many places in Malaysia. So, Myanmar nationals are required to be more careful at the moment. Wherever they go, it is difficult to get the information on when and where it will enter. So, please be careful and observe the weather conditions. As there are many reports on Myanmar shops, Bangladeshi shops and foreigners’ locations, they are conducting operasi. So, if you are in such a place, you should be more cautious,” said a group official.
Myanmar nationals are also advised not to be panic and jump off the building or into the creek, he said.
“They are advised to run when the operasi comes. If they cannot escape, they are advised not to jump off the building or anything like this. When they are caught, they should try to remember a phone number – their family number or mine. It will only last two and a half or three months if they are arrested. There have been deaths from panic jumping. So, they should be careful but not panic,” he said.
