The location for providing passport services to Myanmar students and workers in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai districts will be changed, Myanmar Embassy in Thailand announced on 24 May.

For students who are learning at universities and workers in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai districts, the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok will no longer provide passport service from 27 May and they can seek it at Myanmar Consulate General in Chiang Mai, it announced.

“It is better because Myanmar nationals here no longer need to go to Bangkok. So it is fine for both students and workers, and the embassy’s functions will be eased. So I assumed it is good,” said Ko Maung Maung, who works on Myanmar workers’ affairs.

In recent years, Thailand is one of the preferred destinations for Myanmar students to study and the number of Myanmar students studying in these cities has grown recently.

Myanmar passport issuing team released a list of eligible persons who applied for lost passport on 23 May. Those whose passports have been lost can come in person and collect them along with a copy of ID card, a copy of the first page of the passport, a copy of the embassy’s recommendation document, 4900 baht and a bank receipt. – MT/ZS
