Chinese potato price fell to K3,200 per viss on 29 November after hitting an all-time high of K4,200 per viss on 15 November.
It has been four months since the Bayintnaung Wholesale Commodity market revealed the prices of potatoes supplied by Shan State. A low supply of Chinese potatoes hiked up the price in mid-November from K1,700-1,800 per viss, as recorded on 19 October.
The steady inflow of Chinese potatoes these days scaled down the price.  The wholesale market sees a daily entry of 50,000 visses of Chinese potatoes.
Kyukok garlic and potatoes imported by China rose remarkably in late November compared to mid-October.
Local potatoes from the Sinphyukyun area are bound to flow into the Yangon market in early 2024. As per Potato Depot, the price will likely return to the average price level.
Potato chip businesses subsequently experience high production costs. The warehouses reported that discarding ripe potatoes and repackaging are barely witnessed this month. — TWA/KK
