Daily commuter surge: Over 1,900 rail passengers journey across Yangon-Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Pyay, and Bago routes

The highway passenger trains carry about 1,900 passengers daily from Yangon Region to Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Pyay and Bago routes, according to No 7 Division of Myanma Railways (MR).
The Yangon Railway Station operates Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Mawlamyine, Yangon-Pyay, Yangon-Bagan and Yangon-Bago trains daily as usual.
“The number of train commuters declined starting the COVID-19 period and some train services were suspended. But it has been increasing since the early period of this year. Despite the rainy season, the number of passengers for highway routes is high. There are about 1,900 passengers daily,” said U Thaung Htike, chief superintendent of Yangon Railway Station.
The MR operates three trains including airbag and express trains for the Yangon-Mandalay route, two express trains for the Yangon-Pyay route, one mail train for Kyimyindine station-Pyay station, two airbag and express trains for the Yangon-Mawlamyine route, one express train for Yangon-Bagan route and one express train for the Yangon-Bago route. — ASH/KTZH
