DPM MoTC Union Minister inspects riverbank erosion prevention works in Nyaungdon, Lemyethna

State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San and officials inspected the site of riverbank erosion prevention work at downstream Yankin Sanyar jetty in Nyaungdon, Ayeyawady Region yesterday, and riverbank erosion prevention workplace in Lemyethna Township.
At the site of riverbank erosion prevention work between 14th and 16th Streets, downstream Yankin Sanyar jetty in Ward 3, Nyaungdon, and the Admiral heard the reports by head of Region Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems-DWIR on the preventive measures. Then, the Union Minister said that the preventive measures need to meet the standards of the current technology and design and make it sustainable for the long term, in order to ensure that the danger of the riverbank erosion does not occur again. The preventive works need to be done during the set period before the river water rises in rainy season. For workplace safety and riverbank erosion prevention activities along the city’s shores, annual plans should be established and continued to be implemented, he added.
At the site for prevention of bank erosion near Satumuka Stupa due to the Ngawun River erosion, an official of DWIR presented the implementation and completion of the diversion water walls construction for maintenance of water course in Ngawun river, dredging of sandbanks, construction of bored piles and placing of geo-bag on the bank.
The Union Minister inspected the workplaces, after instructing officials to use high-quality equipment for the projects and closely supervise the State budget for minimizing loss and waste, use sustainable designs and methods for preventive measures, and put an emphasis on workplace safety. — MNA/CT
