Subversive media are posting false accusations on social networking sites, claiming that six residents, including a woman, were beaten and arrested by security forces on 20 May after a convoy was attacked with a mine near Latha Village in Myeik Township and Yanfo Village in Tanintharyi Township.
According to a local security official, the truth is that while the security forces were conducting operations near Latha Village in Myeik Township, PDF terrorists ambushed them from a distance, prompting the security forces to fire back and causing the terrorists to retreat and run away, with no residents being detained.
The reports indicate that malicious media are fabricating news stories to create fear among local people by ambushing, shooting and misrepresenting the actions of the security forces. — MNA/TH
