The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has issued a notification that foreign travellers coming to Myanmar must strictly follow instructions of the relevant health department starting from 1 March 2024 and those who fail to follow the instructions will face legal action.

Travellers have to undergo body temperature and any required health examinations upon their arrival in Myanmar by health department personnel at the appropriate entry checkpoints.

Additionally, if any health-related problems such as COVID-19 are discovered while they are still in Myanmar, they will be responsible for paying cost for charges for medical examinations. Individuals can consult the Myanmar Insurance Website (mminsurance.gov.mm) if they wish to purchase health insurance.

While in Myanmar, foreign visitors who suffer from symptoms of COVID-19 should notify relevant health units about their health conditions. The health guidelines for the public may change on time, and these will come into force on 1 March.

Officials from international flights, maritime voyages and border entries have to substitute newly released health guidelines instead of old ones dated 1 August 2023 for arrivals of travellers in Myanmar.—TWA/MKKS
