Illegal teak, utensils seized this week

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trades under the law.
A total of 1,140 hairdryers and 540 pairs of children’s shoes (estimated value of K2,820,000) were seized during a combined inspection by the Customs Department and the responsible department of Mayanchaung on 13 February.
On 12 February, a combined team from the Yangon Region Forest Department seized 0.7048 tonne of illegal teak (estimated at K211,440) from Hlegu Township and action is taken under the Forest Law.
Similarly, on 14 February, the Bago Region Forest Department and combined teams reportedly inspected forests in Thayawady, Toungoo and Pyay Districts, and 4.3298 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K675,360) was seized and action is taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, a total of three arrests (estimated value of K3,706,800) were made on three consecutive days, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. —MNA
