SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, a combined team led by the Forest Department under the supervision of the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force nabbed a total of 8.5362 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K393,840 in Pyinmana, Lewe and Ottarathiri townships on 20 and 23 October. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 22 October, an on-duty team captured K2.5 million worth of communication materials without official documents at the Yangon International Airport Cargo Warehouse. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Afterwards, on 24 October, an on-duty team at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint seized 3,700 kilogrammes of detergent bags worth K1,942,500 that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a Nissan Diesel Tractor Head (estimated value of K115 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, officials confiscated 150 cartons of beer worth K3 million without official documents from a Mitsubishi Canter car (approximately K17 million) heading from Hpa-an to Thaton at the Thanlwin Bridge (Hpa-an) Combined Checkpoint on 24 October and K1.6 million worth of motorbike tyres without official documents from a vehicle at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint on 25 October. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 23 and 25 October, a total of 34.5878 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K19,948,302 was seized in the Toungoo, Nyaunglebin and Pyay districts and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 25 October, a team led by Myanmar Police Force captured K4 million worth of an unregistered Honda CR-V car and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Therefore, 16 arrests (estimated value of K165,384,642) were made on six consecutive days from 20 to 25 October, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
