Illegal timbers, consumer goods, foodstuffs, unregistered motorbike and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Mon State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, an on-duty inspection team made inspections at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint.
Officials confiscated K2,097,900 worth of consumer goods that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a Mitsubishi Fuso 12- wheel truck (approximately K20 million) heading from Kawthoung to Yangon on 19 August and K14,399,000 worth of edible oil without official documents from a Sunlong passenger bus (approximately K50 million) heading from Myawady to Mandalay on 20 August. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, on 21 August, a combined team led by the Myanmar Police Force conducted inspections under the management of the Sagaing Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force.
They captured an unregistered New Annbo motorbike (approximately K150,000) in Monywa township and an unregistered Hijet car (approximately K3 million) at the Yadanabon Bridge Combined Checkpoint. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Similarly, an inspection team led by Customs Department nabbed K6,660,000 worth of consumer goods that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a Nissan Diesel 22-wheel truck (approximately K32 million) heading from Lweje to Mandalay at the 1/3 Milepost near the Shwegyin Tollgate and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 22 August, a combined on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department captured 142 old mobile phones worth K5.2 million without official documents from a Toyota Fielder car (approximately K20 million) at the Yepu Permanent Checkpoint in Shan State. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Afterwards, a total of 11.8960 tonnes of illegal teak were captured in the Khabaung forest reserve of Toungoo district. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 13 arrests estimated at K157,432,580 were made on 19, 21 and 22 August, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
