Illegal timbers, consumer goods, oil crops and vehicles confiscated

A combined inspection team under the supervision of the Kayin State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted inspections on Asia Highway in Myawady township on 5 December.
Officials captured 20,000 kilogrammes of peanut seed bags worth K32 million from two vehicles (estimated value of K80 million) and the action was taken under Customs Procedures.
On 6 December, a combined on-duty team confiscated an unregistered Toyota Wish car (approximately K5 million) at the MaU combined checkpoint in Monywa township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, a total of 45.2488 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K18,192,548 was impounded in Toungoo, Nyaunglebin, Pyay and Thayawady districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 7 December, an on-duty team at the 16-Mile Kyawtchaw checkpoint seized K28,470,000 worth of clothes that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a vehicle and a trailer (estimated value of K80 million). The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
Therefore, 12 arrests (at an estimated value of K243,662,548) were made on three consecutive days from 5 to 7 December, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
