SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illicit trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Chairman of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force, an inspection team made inspections and seized 23.7354 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K6,158,352 in Thandwe, An and Taungup townships of Rakhine State on 17 July. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, a total of 0.5130 tonne of illegal timbers worth K235,516 was captured in the Minbu (Sagu) township of Magway Region on 18 July. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

Similarly, on 19 July, the inspection teams made inspections in Kawthaung township of Kawthaung district under the supervision of the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force.
They captured K4.74 million worth of crab (300 kilogrammes), mollusc (300 kilogrammes), and white-leg shrimp (440 kilogrammes) to be exported to Ranong in Thailand at the entrance to the Taungnauk jetty in Kawthaung township and the action was taken under the Law.
In addition, a team led by the Forest Department confiscated tractor tools worth K12.5 million without official documents in Htigyaing township and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Afterwards, on 20 and 21 July, officials of the container terminal of the Myanmar Industrial Port captured K8,829,900 worth of consumer goods and stuff, which were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 21 July, the 16th-mile Kyaukchaw Checkpoint confiscated K6,953,000 worth of mobile phone spare parts and computer accessories from a Hino Profia truck (approximately K25 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a total of 6.1322 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K1,381,372 were seized in Bago and Pyay districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 14 arrests estimated at K65,798,140 were made on five consecutive days from 17 to 21 July, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
