Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial goods, minerals and vehicles seized

Effective action is being taken under the law to control illegal trade with the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
Supervised by the Magway Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, the joint inspection teams made inspections at the East Yoma forest reserve of Sinpaungwe Township, Thayet District and confiscated 2.1864 tonnes of illegal timbers (an estimated value of K153,048). The action was charged under the Forest Law.
On 20 and 21 July, an inspection was made at the warehouse of Yangon International Airport by the inspection team of the Anti-Illicit Trade Division under the supervision of the Customs Department and seized approximately K22,002,050 worth of ophthalmic accessories without the Import Declaration, industrial goods (an estimated value of K29,400,000) without an import licence and electric cable wires worth about K1,200,000, amounted to K52,602,050. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, 696 tin-mixed metal bags which exceed the permitted extent (an estimated value of K800,000,000) were impounded from a truck at the Mahlwe Taung Checkpoint of Yephyu Township, by the combined inspection teams with the supervision of the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force on 21 July. The action was taken under the Myanmar Mining Law.
Supervised by the Yangon Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, an on-duty inspection team of EMS International conducted inspections and seized foodstuffs with no proof of importation (approximately K1,200,000) on 22 July. The action was charged under the Customs Procedures.
Likewise, the inspection team of the Anti-Illicit Trade Division examined the Container Checkpoint of the Myanmar Industrial Port and confiscated blank holders with no ID at an estimated value of K5,550,000 and unregistered vehicles (approximately K35,000,000) which were imported by ship, totalling K40,550,000. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Besides, inspections are carried out at the DaikU Township in Bago Region, by the inspection team of the regional Forest Department which was supervised by the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force and impounded 11.7296 tonnes of illegal timbers (approximately K5,864,800) on 22 July. Also, an inspection team led by the Myanmar Police Force arrested a Toyota Wish car without a licence (an estimated value of K3,500,000) near the Thapyaykan village on 23 July. These two arrests amounted to an estimated value of K9,364,800 and the action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export/Import Law, respectively.
Afterwards, the combined on-duty team of the Kayin State Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force made inspections at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Checkpoint and seized an unregistered Honda Fit GE6-type vehicle (approximately K5,000,000), which was stopped for an excessive time near Hlainewa village, as reported. The team also captured the couple’s watches with no IDs (an estimated value of K1,720,000) and men’s shoes (approximately K2,400,000) from a truck heading from Yangon to Myawady. These two arrests, which were made on 22 and 23 July, amounted to K9,120,000 and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Thus, 19 arrests worth approximately K912,989,898 were made on 20, 21, 22 and 23 May, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
