Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial materials and vehicles confiscated

An on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department conducted inspections on 29 November.
Officials captured K5,838,000 worth of industrial materials without an import licence from a container at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint and 3,200 baby backpacks worth K3.2 million that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a container at Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa (MITT). The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a combined on-duty team under the management of the Kayin State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force confiscated K2,568,000 worth of foodstuffs and consumer goods without official documents from a Toyota HiAce car (estimated value of K15 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon at the Thanlwin Bridge (Hpa-an) combined checkpoint and 60 cooking pans (red) worth K2.1 million without official documents from a vehicle heading from Myawady to Yangon at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint on 30 November. The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
In addition, a combined team made inspections at the Muse 105th-Mile Trade Zone and impounded K75,700,500 worth of industrial materials without official documents from a vehicle (estimated value of K35 million). The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
On 1 December at the Mayanchaung Permanent checkpoint in Mon State, officials seized lady sandals that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a Nissan Diesel Tractor Head and a trailer (approximately K116,380,000) heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
In addition, a total of 5. 2718 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K2,101,400 was nabbed in Bago and Nyaunglebin districts and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 12 arrests (estimated value of K257,887,900) were made on three consecutive days on 29 and 30 November and 1 December, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA
