Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, industrial materials, consumer goods, car parts and vehicles confiscated

A combined team under the supervision of the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted inspections on 11 December at the Pauktaing Bridge checkpoint on Myeik- Dawei road and captured K7,308,000 worth of foodstuffs without official documents and 105 bags of illegal charcoal worth K472,500 from a Daewoo bus (approximately K30 million). Effective action was taken under Customs Procedures.
In addition, on 12 December, a combined team led by Customs Department captured K62,683,500 worth of car parts, industrial materials and consumer goods that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from two vehicles and trailers (approximately K167 million) near 21 Milepost on PyinOoLwin-Mandalay Road and action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
A combined team led by Myanmar Police Force seized two unregistered Kenbo 125 motorbikes in Monywa and Indaw townships. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
A total of 18.4306 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K1,290,142 was confiscated in Taungup, Minbya and Thandwe townships and action was taken under the Forest Law.
A total of 0.4012 tonne of illegal sawn teaks worth K264,792 was seized in Pakokku township and a total of 5.1228 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K1,684,088 in Toungoo and Pyay districts on 13 December and action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 17 arrests (at an estimated value of K271,003,022) were made on three consecutive days from 11 to 13 December, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
