Illegal timbers, medicines, foodstuffs, consumer goods, toilet accessories, motorbike parts and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
A combined team led by Myanmar Police under the supervision of the Sagaing Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force made inspections on 17 October.
Officials captured K70,704,900 worth of motorbike parts, made-in-India foodstuffs, consumer goods and medicines without official documents from a Yuton car (estimated value of K35 million) at the Ohntaw junction of Sagaing township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Afterwards, a combined team captured an unregistered Nissan Murano car (approximately K5 million) near the junction of the Yangon-Mandalay highway in Hlegu township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, a total of 1.1274 tonnes of illegal teak logs worth K52,000 in Hlegu township was seized and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Similarly, a total of 1.5806 tonnes of illegal sawn teak worth K995,676 was nabbed in Thayet township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
A combined team captured a total of 7.5700 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K529,900 in Pathein township and the action was taken under the Forest Law. An unregistered Toyota Succeed car (estimated value of K3 million) was seized in Pyapon township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
The Yepu Permanent Checkpoint confiscated K7,645,000 worth of cosmetics, foodstuffs and other consumer goods without official documents from a Jin Bei mini-bus (approximately K18 million) heading from Muse to Mandalay.
On 18 October, the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint nabbed 232 crock pots worth K1,888,060 that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a Hino Profia car (estimated value of K40 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 19 October, the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint confiscated K1.5 million worth of toilet accessories without official documents from a vehicle heading from Myawady to Yangon and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
A total of 23.4390 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K7,487,310 was seized in Toungoo, Pyay and Thayawady districts and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 15 arrests estimated at K191,802,846 were made on three consecutive days from 17 to 19 October, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
