SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
An inspection team under the instructions of the Mandalay Region Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force conducted inspections near the 21st Milepost on the Mandalay–PyinOoLwin Road on 9 August.
Officials confiscated K51,480,500 worth of car parts, battery bicycles, raw chemicals, clothes and sandals without official documents from three Hino Profia trucks (approximately K54 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, an on-duty combined team under the supervision of the Sagaing Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force carried out inspections at the Yadanabon Bridge Combined Checkpoint on 11 August.
They captured 199 bags of lentils (produced by India) worth K11,940,000 without official documents. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, a total of 1.9858 tonnes of illegal sawn teak and other timbers worth K1,053,168 were confiscated in the Ngalaik forest reserve between the 227/5 milepost and 227/60 milepost on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Afterwards, on 12 August, a total of 0.5382 tonne of illegal sawn ironwood worth K269,100 in Phu township of Toungoo district and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 10 arrests (approximately K118,742,768) were made on 9, 11 and 12 August, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
