Illegal timbers, unregistered vehicles, consumer goods seized

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, action is being taken under the law against illegal trades across the country.
The team led by the Forest Department under the Rakhine State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force made inspections. They captured 5.0140 tonnes of illegal timbers at an estimated value of K251,150 in Thandwe and Taungup Townships on 12 May and 5.0026 tonnes of illegal Taungthayet at an estimated value of K350,182 in Taungup Township on 14 May. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, on 15 May, the inspection on-duty team at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint captured K4,700,000 worth of Thai traditional medicines and mosquito repellent bottles that were illegally carried by an express bus heading to Mandalay from Mawlamyine. The action was taken under the Customs Law.
Moreover, on 16 May, Police confiscated an unregistered Toyota Mark-II car at an estimated value of K1,500,000 and an unregistered Toyota Crown car at an estimated value of K2,000,000. The action was taken under the Export/Import Law.
Afterwards, on the same day, the Forest Department inspection team captured K262,800 worth of 1.7520 tonnes of illegal teak in Khaboung forest reserve in Ottwin Township, and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
The Police Force seized four vehicles without licences at an estimated value of K12,000,000 in the front of the security checkpoint on the Sittoung Bridge and opened a file on this case under the Export/Import Law.
Therefore, on 12, 14, 15 and 16 May, 11 arrests were made (estimated value of K21,064,132), according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
