Misinformation spread on social media: Natthankwin market fire caused by Tatmadaw mortar explosion

Misinformation circulated that the Natthankwin market in Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region, caught fire on 7 January due to the explosion of heavy weapon fire by Tatmadaw.
It was discovered that the illegal, malicious news media, Mizzima, was spreading misinformation on social media.
According to a security official, the actual incident occurred on 7 January when security forces, working to ensure the safety of locals and maintain peace in Natthankwin, came under fire from terrorists using heavy weapons.
Terrorists aim to disrupt people’s lives and socioeconomic activities. In the process, to conceal their activities and distort the local perception of Tatmadaw, they circulate misinformation on social media through malicious news media. — MNA/KZW
