The Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (MMCWA) marked its 10th anniversary at Nay Pyi Taw’s Horizon Lake View Hotel yesterday morning. The event saw the presence of Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, MMCWA’s honorary patron and wife of the Chairman of the State Administration Council, alongside Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than Nwe, honorary patrons of the Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation.
Dr Soe Win, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, who also chairs the Myanmar Women’s Committee, highlighted MMCWA’s vibrant role as a member not only at the Union level but also across regions, states, and districts. He emphasized their active involvement in forming associations aimed at enhancing the well-being of women and children.
He noted that Myanmar, as part of the UN’s procedures, is committed to advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls. He highlighted MMCWA’s participation in the ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Strategic Framework (AGMSF) and its dedication to the ASEAN Community’s three pillars.
With Myanmar’s estimated population of 55.8 million as of 1 October 2022, comprising 26.7 million men and 29.1 million women, Union Minister Dr Soe Win urged officials to bolster women’s capacity to effectively contribute to the nation’s development.
MMCWA Chairperson Dr Wai Wai Tha greeted attendees and showcased the association’s activities through a video presentation. Donations from well-wishers were also announced during the event.
The discussions encompassed MMCWA’s plans for raising awareness and future initiatives aligned with the newly introduced association registration law by the State Administration Council on 28 October 2022. — MNA/KZL
