Macau Special Administrative Region of China celebrates 26th Myanmar Water Festival

Myanmar’s consul-general based in the Hong Kong Region, along with officials and their families, participated in the 26th Myanmar Traditional Thingyan Water Festival in the Macau Special Administrative Region of China on 21 April, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The festival was organized by Myanmar citizens residing in the Macau Special Administrative Region and their friends from the region to celebrate the New Year.
At the opening ceremony of the festival, U Han Win Naing, Myanmar’s Consul-General based in the Hong Kong Region, expressed his wish to continue preserving this celebration, infused with the essence of Myanmar culture, to welcome the Myanmar New Year. He also mentioned that his office shares joint responsibility for the Macau Special Administrative Region and is making every effort to safeguard the interests of Myanmar citizens working in the area. The consul-general encouraged them to live and work in accordance with the region’s regulations and wished them a comfortable and happy New Year.
In the evening, the Myanmar consul-general attended the water festival celebration dinner and met with Myanmar students who are studying at universities in the Greater Bay Area on scholarships provided by the Chinese government. He encouraged them to endeavour to strengthen people-to-people relations between Myanmar and China while pursuing advanced education.
Officials from the Liaison Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China based in the Macau Region, representatives of the Political Consultative Congress of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau Region, local government departments, including those that jointly organized the ceremony, and organizations such as the Macau Government Tourism Office, Municipal Affairs Bureau, Macau Association of Mutual Help of Myanmar Overseas Chinese Association, Macau Foundation, as well as Consulate-Generals of ASEAN countries based in Hong Kong, also attended the opening ceremony. — ASH/TH
