MNHRC inspects Hmawby police lock-up, court detention centres, Home for the Aged (Hmawby)

MNHRC members seen viewing round the Home for the Aged (Hmawby) yesterday.

The inspection team, led by U Kyaw Myint, a member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, inspected the Hmawby Police Lock-up, Hmawby District Court Detention Centre, Hmawby Township Court Detention Centre and Home for the Aged (Hmawby) in Hmawby Township, Yangon Region under Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law on 15 March 2024.
The inspection team inspected Hmawby police lock-up and court detention centres on the conditions of remand period of detainees, family visits, the status of appearance, food supplies, water sanitation system, the status of cleanliness and the status of communication with lawyers of the detention centres.
Then, the inspection team inspected the Home for the Aged (Hmawby) under the MNHRC Law and procedures to determine whether the old aged persons can get fundamental human rights, including healthcare services, food supply, provision of purified drinking water, right to freedom of religion, adequate dormitories and leisure arrangements.
MNHRC will send recommendations to the relevant departments for the necessary action based on the findings during the inspection. — MNHRC
