MoE UM engages in technical discussions with ROSGEO

Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin led a delegation to the Sixth Russian Energy Week International Forum (REW) in Moscow, Russia. During the forum, the delegation engaged in discussions with Mr Alexander, Head of the International Operations Department at ROSGEO, the state-owned geoscience exploration and research organization of the Russian Federation.
Mr Alexander, Director of International Operations at ROSGEO, provided insights into ROSGEO’s extensive geoscience research and exploration activities, including oil and mineral exploration, geophysics studies, mining, offshore site analysis, gravity surveys, geological surveys, and measurement research and analysis. ROSGEO, wholly owned by the Russian Federation, collaborates internationally and boasts 64 subsidiary companies.
The discussions primarily revolved around the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for extracting oil from low-potential layers in old oil wells. Additionally, there were talks about collecting and analyzing data related to geological valleys (Sedimentary Basins) to identify new oil fields. The ability to conduct 2D and 3D site surveys and evaluate the obtained data to identify potential oil and natural gas reserves, as well as the capacity to construct 3D geological models, were also explored.
The Union minister expressed keen interest in leveraging modern technologies to reduce losses and risks, particularly in light of declining oil production in Myanmar. He expressed a strong desire to cooperate further with the ROSGEO team on these technical fronts. — MNA/TS
