The Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han arrived in the UAE on 24 July to attend the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee for Asia and Pacific Region.
The Union minister and party met ISA Director-General Dr Ajay Mathur at the meeting hall of Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort in Abu Dhabi at 3 pm local standard time on that day.
During the meeting, the Union minister said that Myanmar initiated the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) aiming for 11 per cent renewable energy output by 2030 to have complied with the decision of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The country also plans to increase up to 17 per cent of renewable energy output if it receives international assistance.
To do so, international countries should support the upgrading of power systems into smart grids, national control centres and smart metering systems.
It also should help the blended finance system for investments in the solar power sector.
Then, the ISA director-general appreciated the ongoing solar power development projects of Myanmar, saying that ISA is working to implement the Global Solar Facility. It will include three sectors like insurance for payment, funds and investment.
Moreover, Myanmar can grab technical assistance in the solar power sector under the Solar Technology and Applications Research Centre (STAR-C) programmes.
