According to the Ministry of Health, a central vaccine cold storage in Yangon, capable of storing vaccines required for Myanmar for one year, was constructed in Mayangon Township at a cost of K2.3 billion. The facility was jointly built by the Ministry of Health and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to accommodate the increasing availability of vaccines and to store medicine and medical supplies.
The new four-storey building comprises seven walk-in coolers, four walk-in freezers, ultra-cold chain freezers capable of storing vaccines at minus 80 degrees Celsius, a dry store for syringes and related materials, offices, and meeting rooms. Additionally, it includes a training hall for approximately 400 people, accommodation for about 50 trainees, passenger elevators, freight elevators, solar power systems, two 300 kVA backup generators, and a 10,000-gallon water tank. It is reported that this facility can store the nationwide vaccine requirement for one year.
The Union minister said that the central vaccine cold storage in Yangon will enable systematic transport of various vaccines without compromising their cold chain integrity, leading to more efficient vaccination operations. — TWA/CT
